Are you a parent looking for ways to secure your child's future? Opening a Youth Savings Account early on is a smart financial move that can yield significant benefits. 

Kids Club

Introducing your child to the concept of saving money at an early age can foster a strong foundation for financial literacy. Children will learn the value of money by watching their savings grow. This basic savings account establishes credit union membership, and is designed for our youngest members, ages 0-10. It requires a parent, legal guardian, or immediate family member as the joint owner.
  • A minimum par value deposit of $5.00 is required to open a Youth Savings Account. This par value must be maintained at all times to keep the account in good standing.
  • Earn a $25.00 bonus deposit when you open a Youth Savings Account with a minimum initial deposit of $25.00*.
  • Youth Savings Account dividends are posted quarterly with a minimum average daily balance of just $50.00.

By resisting immediate temptations, they'll develop a strong financial well-being that will benefit them into adulthood. Review the account regularly with your child to show their progress and celebrate their achievement. This basic savings account establishes credit union membership, and is designed for minors, ages 11-15. It requires a parent, legal guardian, or immediate family member as the joint owner.
  • A minimum par value deposit of $5.00 is required to open an Youth Savings Account. This par value must be maintained at all times to keep the account in good standing.
  • Earn a $25.00 bonus deposit when you open an Youth Savings Account with a minimum initial deposit of $25.00*.

Teen Choice with Checking

Teens, ages 16-17, may add a personal checking to their savings account, with a parent, legal guardian, or immediate family member as the joint owner. Managing a checking account helps your teen learn about budgeting, saving, and spending wisely. By having their own checking account, they can begin making financial decisions and learn to rely on themselves. It also gives your teen a head start on building a positive financial well-being. Note that the parent or legal guardian will accept liability for any debt that may be incurred by the minor on the account. Overdraft Advantage is not available on Teen Choice Checking Accounts.

  • A minimum par value deposit of $5.00 is required to open a Youth Savings Account. This par value must be maintained at all times to keep the account in good standing. There is a $25.00 minimum initial deposit required to open the Teen Choice Checking Account. 
  • Earn a $25.00 bonus deposit when you open a Youth Savings Account with a minimum initial deposit of $25.00*.
  • Youth Savings Account dividends are posted quarterly with a minimum average daily balance of just $50.00.
  • A Mastercard Debit Card may be added for access to over 38,000 surcharge-free ATMs.
  • Fee forgiveness: We will reimburse up to two fees per calendar year if your teen makes a mistake with a returned item, NSF, or overdraft. Simply request the reimbursement and we'll take it from there.

Scholarships

Each year, Emerald Credit Union selects up to two high school graduates within the school districts that we serve, to be awarded with a $1,000 scholarship intended to aid with college or other post-high school education expenses.

We also proudly participate in the Ohio Credit Union Foundation's Annual Video Scholarship, which awards three scholarships ($5000, $2500, $1000) to an Ohio undergraduate credit union member. 

70th Anniversary Senior Scholarship

Hey seniors, are you looking for the chance to earn some cash for college? Don't miss the opportunity to apply for our 70th Anniversary Senior Scholarship! One winner will receive a $700 award to help pay the expenses of attending an accredited college or university, trade school, or other continuing education program. Eligibility requirements include:

🎓The applicant or their parent/legal guardian must be an Emerald CU member in good standing for
     at least six months.
🎓Must be a high school senior or recent high school graduate (within six months).
🎓Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
